Month of Ragab –

The month of Rajab is one of the sacred months that Allah Almighty has honored, and it is the seventh month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
It has held a special status since pre-Islamic times, when the Arabs refrained from fighting during it out of respect for its sanctity. Islam came to confirm its honor and uphold its sacredness. Rajab marks the beginning of a spiritual phase that prepares Muslims for the blessings of Ramadan, a time when their hearts become more inclined toward worship and devotion.

Rajab has a unique virtue, as it is one of the four sacred months mentioned by Allah in the Qur’an, in Surah At-Tawbah: “Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve months… of which four are sacred” (36). From this, people developed the habit of increasing remembrance of Allah, prayer, and seeking forgiveness, even though there are no specific authentic texts assigning particular acts of worship exclusively to Rajab. Nevertheless, worship in this month remains beloved, as it falls within a blessed period when sins are prohibited and rewards for good deeds are multiplied.

Rajab is also remembered in Islamic history for the Isra and Mi‘raj, the miraculous Night Journey and Ascension of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which many scholars believe occurred in this month — though the exact date is not definitively established. The event itself holds great spiritual significance, reminding Muslims of the Prophet’s divine mission and the importance of faith and perseverance.

Muslims typically welcome this month by preparing their hearts for upcoming seasons of goodness, such as Sha‘ban and Ramadan. Many increase their charity, Qur’an recitation, acts of kindness, and family ties. Some take it as an opportunity to abandon bad habits or overcome laziness in worship, making Rajab a starting point for self-reform and spiritual growth.

Thus, the month of Rajab is not merely a period of time in the Hijri calendar, but rather a spiritual pause, a time for the soul to regain peace, and for the believer to renew his connection with Allah in preparation for the great seasons of worship ahead. It is truly a month of mercy, tranquility, and reflection, offering hearts a chance to return, contemplate, and renew.
