Here we have reached, by God’s great grace, Sha‘ban,
All praise to Allah, who gave us life and endless care.
A month where seeds of goodness grow in blessed soil,
And soon will bloom as branches lush and fair.
Whoever plants good deeds shall reap their ripened fruit,
When Ramadan arrives and shades us with its light.
The Prophet used to fast in Sha‘ban nearly all of it,
And that exalted his rank and his noble state.
In it, the deeds of people are raised to the Lord of all,
Who then bestows upon us His generous gifts.
Our righteous forefathers held it in high esteem,
Until it became all remembrance and Qur’an.
They called it “the month of reciters,” for their hearts
Yearned for the Qur’an throughout the days of Sha‘ban.
So fill your month with goodness, and hasten to do deeds—
Fasting, generosity, Qur’an, and acts of kindness.
And he who owes fasts—let him hasten to fulfill them,
Lest Ramadan come and find him in regret.
Seek out the poor and the hungry in this month,
And feed your kin and neighbors with compassion.
No good is there in one whose neighbor sleeps in hunger,
While he himself rests full and satisfied.
Increase your night prayers, so that perhaps you’ll find,
In Ramadan’s nights, His help and guidance near.
He who plants goodness in Sha‘ban shall be rewarded,
With fruits so pure and clear in the coming month.
And he who sinned—Allah will still accept him,
Repent to God, and meet Him full of joy.
And never say “later,” for how many a healthy soul
Was wrapped in shrouds while still in sin and heedlessness.
So grant us, our Lord, Your aid and mercy,
That we may grow in faith by Your grace in this month.
Forgive us, protect us from the evil within ourselves,
And never let a devil have power over us again.
